Week 1:
This is when we get the basics right. The first thing is to get started on the best sunscreen, which brings us to the question of what indeed, is the best sunscreen?
The answer is pretty simple; the best sunscreen is the one that our skin tolerates well. And we need time to figure out whether our skin is indeed comfortable with the sunscreen product, which is why it makes sense to start with this one.
You can check out our recommended sunscreen products, which work on the principle of being very well tolerated by your skin. You can further narrow down the search after that based on what ingredients you want to avoid or add on. Sunscreen regulations are undergoing a lot of change, so please make sure to check out recommendations, as our choices are updated periodically, based on the latest guidelines.
Week 2:
Congratulations on completing your first week of a skincare routine. Assess your skin for any breakouts, irritation, or any discomfort from the sunscreen - as this product will be your main anchor for any anti-aging effort.
If none, great, you can now move on to the products to be added for week 2. A good cleanser is ideal for any skincare plan. We recommend that you use 2, one for gentle cleansing and the other one for some serious skin cleansing. When you are removing makeup or the sunscreen off, a stronger facewash is used. On the other hand, the gentle cleanser will be put to use during your skincare routines, say like an exfoliation.
It may seem a little boring to do skincare with just two products, so let us meanwhile get started on holistic skincare.
Try your best to adopt a healthy sleep routine. Sleep cycles do a lot more than just recharging the brain. They recharge the skin cells and reset the hair cycle too.
Try taking 3-3.5 litres of water everyday. Dehydrated skin is more prone to dullness and hyperpigmentation and may take a longer time to clear blemishes with your DIY plan coming right up.
Week 3:
You have done 1/3 of the journey, so good job there!
This week is important cause we will be introducing your first biggie to skincare, the amazing UNSCRUB® routine from CHOSEN®! As beginners, let us start with the Milk Route® Daily, a lactic acid based chemical exfoliation step, which stands out from all other lactic acid peels out simply by infusing your skin with a lot of healthy moisture while cleansing away all unwanted oiliness from the face. You can start with a 20-minute application thrice a week. As mentioned in your Week 2 plan, you need to use a gentle cleanser when working on the exfoliation.
And congratulations, exfoliation is considered one of the most significant steps of DIY skincare, and you have just gotten started on that. Exfoliation is nothing but regular clearing off of dead skin cells, and chemical peels are amazing for doing this. Scrubbing, also called physical exfoliation, harms Indian skin types by causing pigmentation and skin roughness, called acanthosis. Chemical peels and exfoliations completely avoid any such pigmentation or thickening of the skin by the gentle nature of their action: removing the dead cells by loosening them and not by scraping them off.
Week 4:
You are now almost there with a professional level skincare routine. Let’s tech it up a notch (pun intended) by adding your multitasking home skin treatment device, the Light Routine® LED Mask, to your mix. This is a versatile home LED device that uses the power of red, blue, green, and orange lights in various permutations and combinations to combat specific skin conditions. All you need to do is to pick the skin goal you want to work on and then proceed to use the LED for a period of 6 to 8 weeks. After this, you can switch down to a long-term maintenance regimen, taking your skin game into the long term!
You can also scale up the Milk Route® Daily to 4 times a week.
Skincare is such that everything is worth it! Make sure to be mindful of what you eat and avoid foods that are too high in oil or sugar. And avoid snacking late into the nights, and never skip breakfast. This will ensure that your insulin resistance stays on track. Insulin axis disturbances are associated with pigmented and mature skin, and we definitely do not want this!
Week 5:
Ready to scale up and go upscale? Now is when we add the magic to our routine. You can now go ahead and open your little pink bottle of Light Routine® Easy, salicylic acid home peel. Now, if you are getting very regular with your sunscreen, face wash, and daily lactic acid exfoliation, you can schedule your Easy for the weekend.
Stick to the suggested time and make sure to cool the skin down with the accompanying accessory, the Ice Lolly™.
At this point, you should be well able to experience the softness and smoothness of your fresh skin, and be able to reap the rewards of the lifestyle efforts you are putting in. You can also add on the OptiMIST™️ WaterBody™️ light moisturiser to your bedtime routine.
Week 6:
Welcome to the amazing world of DIY Skincare! You are now a legit pro skincare DIYer. This week is all about consolidating the efforts of the last few weeks.
Time to add an internal sunscreen like the highly effective White Pine® Pycnogenol® and some skin boosting collagen supplements like our famed TOR™ Classic. If you are a vegan or vegetarian, we still have you covered with our world class methylsulfonylmethane OptiMSM® in TOR™ Bright.
Also, week 6 is also a good time to think about where we go from here. If you are happy with how your skin is doing, then all you have to do is to switch down to maintenance.
Here’s how:
Choose a maintenance program from the LED product guide and continue to provide the benefits of LED therapy to your skin.
Switch down Light Routine® to once in 10 days, as long term maintenance.
If you are someone that uses heavy make up, a silicone based sunscreen, or if you are exposed to a lot of dust and pollution, you can continue to use your Milk Route® Daily, 4-5 times a week. Also you can switch down to 10-15 minutes a day, if you wish to.
Avoid habits like oiling like the scalp, which causes occlusion, and unwanted acne. It is as much about avoiding unnecessary steps, as it is about getting on a good daily skincare routine.
Here’s all about beginner skincare using CHOSEN®’s products and getting started on a basic skincare routine.
