In this three-minute guide, we will quickly show you how and when to combine moisturizer and sunscreen in your everyday routine.
SAFESCREENs are high performance sunscreens mostly containing non-nano zinc oxide as the principal UV filter. As a general rule, mineral sunscreens are not as moisturizing as chemical sunscreens. This is because of the natural activity of mineral sunscreens, which act on the surface of the skin by scattering the light rather than by absorbing light as chemical sunscreens do. So you might need a moisturizer with your sunscreen, but this depends on your skin type.
The best way to get started on your SAFESCREEN sunscreen is to use it for the first 3 days, without a moisturizer. Then assess the skin for dryness after cleansing off the sunscreen at bedtime. If there is no dryness, you can continue to use it without a moisturizer and reassess it after 4 more days, that is, at the end of 1 week. If you feel that your skin is comfortable, you can continue to use SAFESCREEN without any moisturizer.
If you feel any dryness on day 3, you can consider adding a moisturizer before you put on your sunscreen. The options are as below:
Skin Type | Type of Moisturizer | Recommended Moisturizer |
Oily/Acne-prone | Water based | OptiMIST WaterBody Aqua |
Combination | Gel-Creme | Gelee |
Dry | Creme | Peptide Therapy Creme |
The process is the same if you detect dryness at any point of your assessment. You need to repeat the assessment again in the same way at 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 12 weeks. After this, you mostly know that you and your SAFESCREEN have settled down well without a moisturizer. You can reassess at any time, though, depending on the conditions of your environment like weather changes, vacation and so on.
Similarly, if you are going to be in very humid environments, you can skip the moisturizer as well for a few days, especially if you have oily or greasy skin and check to see if there is any dryness, and reintroduce the moisturizer in your bedtime routine.
Also, you can try to alternate between SAFESCREEN sunscreens for oily skin like SAFESCREEN Silymarin Sunscreen, and richer mineral sunscreens like SAFESCREEN Polypodium, or all the way to moisturizing sunscreens like Seasun or Nexgen.
